YOKOSUKA, Kanagawa Prefecture--An estimated half a million abandoned
cats and dogs end up at animal welfare centers around the country; 95 percent
are put down.
"Sun" was one such stray dog that nearly met that terrible fate. But the lucky
canine was saved from the pound by a couple who adopted him. Sun quickly
became a beloved member of the family.
A book has been published about Sun titled "Suteinu Sun no Jinsei Annai"
(Stray dog Sun gives advice) by Media Factory Inc. It is filled with snippets,
anecdotes and photos of the ever-changing family dynamics since Sun came
into their home.
Sun's owners and the authors of the collection of essays are photographer Yukimasa
Hirota, 44, and his wife, Chieko, 42, who live in Yokosuka, Kanagawa
Prefecture. They have learned valuable lessons about life from Sun, inspiring
them to pen such mottos as: "If you are having a tough time, take little
breaks and take it easy. What's important is the process."
