HINT:森の奥から戻ってきたオランウータンたち(orangutans)。彼らの未来は……?
KALIMANTAN, Indonesia--Across Southeast Asia, orangutans, longnosed monkeys and other animals are losing their habitats due to a sharp decrease of forests from illegal logging or fires.
In the Tanjung Putting National Park in the Kalimantan region of Borneo, orangutans can be seen hanging from tree branches along rivers in the morning.
In the evening, endangered long-nosed monkeys, also known as Proboscis monkeys, spend the night perched on the branches.
Following an intensified government crackdown on illegal logging in the region over the past several months, orangutans and long-nosed monkeys, which had fled to deeper parts of the forests, have returned to the area.
In particular, orangutans have been seen regularly in recent months, according to officials from environmental NGOs.
This return is good news. However, the United Nations Environment Program warns that 98 percent of natural forests where orangutans live could disappear by 2022.
